Good starter set to learn how different fabrics function for me and my needs.
I bought this set to try all the available fabrics offered. Upon receiving my order, I put them through a wash (normal cycle, gentle detergent, hot water setting) and to my surprise none of them shrink; all of them (various fabrics materials) maintain their shape. It arrived at the most perfect time when I have my period so I get to test it right away. To my surprise, athletic fabric is my favorite and I feel it absorbs same amount or more than bamboo.
Another mention was for the shape of the pads and it’s generous width with 2 button fastening which helps to keep the pads in place. The front portion of the pads slightly curved ensure I don’t have weird warping in my mon pubis area when wearing my undergarments.
Below are my opinion on each fabrics:
Minky: It’s soft and cushy, not suitable when you have lots of clots because it crusted on the surface of the fabric. However, it’s easily removed when I run it through running water on my sink. This fabric is not for me because it doesn’t absorb as fast as I would like with me having menorrhagia.
Bamboo: Good for heavy period and clots just roll off the fabric when I swipe it with toilet paper. Stays relatively dry even though I can feel it retains good amount of discharge from the heft of the padding; it’s my second favorite after the athletic fabric.
Cotton: If you have lots of clots, cotton might be good because it the easiest to pick up the clots. It doesn’t absorb as well or feel as soft as the other but if your period produces more clots than liquid blood - good choice in my opinion.
Flannel: It shows the start of pilling when I took it out from its first wash. It doesn’t absorb as well as Bamboo or Athletic but it’s strangely comfortable wear for when my vulva and labia aching during period.
Jersey: This fabric feels like supportive padding on thin underwear. Out of all the other fabric, this one adheres the best to my contour. Doesn’t absorb as well as Bamboo or Athletic but it’s the one that fit the best where I can see the period blood kept nicely in the middle instead fanning out.
Athletic: My favorite fabric out of the others. I like that it’s moisture wicking and absorbs almost the same as bamboo but thinner. Moisture control and staying cool down there is my priority so this fabric is perfect for me. I love that it absorbs while keeping my area dry. Sometime there’s very small stringy bits of my clot that get trapped by the fabric fibers after I swipe it with toilet paper, but all of the fabrics (including athletic) can be tossed in washing machine and come out nice and clean.
